We’ve discovered that placing league bets on low odds matches (i.e. Below 1.5) following competitive international breaks is particularly risky.
The one to two weeks away from day-to-day league matches affects team performance and form is often disrupted. This is not an ideal scenario for form based soccer football betting systems (like ours), which rely upon historical and recent trends to support selections.
This may seem obvious, but we’ve been seriously hit by the international breaks during October and May, which saw two significant losing periods. This has hampered results and caused the trend based selections to provide a negative overall value rather than the general positive performance.
To that end we’ve introduced a feature within the modelling, which will disregard league fixtures for certain teams and leagues surrounding a lengthy international break.
It’s important to note that sometimes domestic cup competitions may also disrupt form. There may be a number of reasons, so let’s not speculate too much, but this may be due to players taking part in cup competitions as opposed to league fixtures (especially for the teams within the top flight leagues).
