Internet Betting Slip vs Physical Betting Slip? Is Online Betting Really Any Better?

Online betting or offline betting are choices for modern punters, but which is better for placing bets and collecting winnings? Read more to find out

Different punters will have different tastes. Some will like internet betting while others will always want to savour the action in live betting. Some prefer writing on a physical betting slip while others would rather fill out a form online.

The question is...which one is better for you? Remember, that what is best for one person may not be the best for you.

We’ll go over the old question of online betting vs. physical brick and mortar betting.

The traditional betting shop vs. The modern betting app

If you have been to the betting shop you know what it is like to line up in queue, checking out different codes, and then filling out a betting slip with the old pen. You also get to experience the noise and chatter that punters make at the betting shop.

And finally, to complete your baptism of fire at the betting shop, you also have the privilege of collecting your winnings and holding it in your hands. Of course, this is all emotional, as handling the money generates excitement and validation at the same time.

Some people also enjoy the atmosphere and the ‘vibe’ of the betting shops, as you may get people from all walks of life all cheering together for a common goal. Everyone likes to feel part of something and the betting industry, with the front of line, traditional betting shops are a great place for punters to feel that camaraderie and overall feel-good spirit when things are going according to plan.

You will feel so validated after all the excitement and general vibe of the place.

You may even find new buddies there. You can also share trade secrets about the teams or the horses that are running. You can talk about favourites, what makes a good bet, and have a lot of fun in the process.

Recreational betting should be fun and you should NEVER risk more than you can comfortably afford to lose.

Of course, online sports betting is a whole lot different and obviously more solitary a lot of times. Sure, you can call up the gang and have them all come over when you place your individual bets.

But that is still a totally different experience compared to the one you’re getting from the betting shop. On top of that you don’t get to have someone hand you over your winnings.

Instead you collect your winnings from your online bookmaker or sportsbook betting account by transferring over to your bank account, which is more like withdrawing money than anything else.

The raw emotion and sometimes not quite the same when you’re with people and experiencing the winning (and losing) process together.

On screen betting slip vs. paper betting slip

You need to experience live betting at least once in your life. It will be a totally different thing, promise.

Live betting at the match, track or stadium, is really a double-edged sword. At times it’s absolutely thrilling and at other times it can be laborious, but you must try it at least once just to make a justified comparison.

You will be holding your long slip of paper while watching different games—maybe enjoy a beer or two in the process (assuming that’s permitted by the establishment). You won’t believe how many people keep doing this every weekend, marking their slips, and cashing out as they go.

The slips will be marked “won” for all the winning bets. Of course, the online experience will very different. You don’t have to manually keep track of your winnings, as the apps and websites do all of that for you.

Online bookmakers will have an automated system in place where you can monitor your wins and your losses over the long-term. This is usually hassle free, so you can make your bets and feel confident that your performance is tracked, which should help you plan your next bet when you know how your previous bet performed.

You can also enjoy watching your favourite football teams play and some apps are so instinctual that you may see your mobile or laptop screen light up in either green or red. As you can imagine, green is for winning bets and red for losing bets…

Which One is Better? Offline sports betting or online sports betting?

Now, this is the classic question; which is better, online betting or the good old brick and mortar betting houses?

To answer that question, we will need to cover the pros and the cons of each option.

•    The Case for Online Bookmakers

One of the biggest advantages of online bookmakers over traditional bookies is the fact that they can offer more betting options. Sure, land-based bookies today have also stepped up and have offered more betting options but they still cannot keep up with the number of options offered by their online counterparts.

The internet nowadays is littered with hundreds of betting platforms, which are of course kept separate from online casinos. But back in the day things weren’t like that.

Back then the betting options from online bookies were limited. Well, that was because the technological architecture and modern infrastructure wasn’t there to provide a combined betting experience for the punter.

Imagine trying to place a bet when your internet speed is only on dial up speed where you are talking kilobits instead of megabytes. You can see the difference, right?

Nowadays the number of betting options has increased because online bookmakers can now facilitate the sheer number of bets wagered by many millions of customers throughout the world.

Online bookmaker websites and apps are now better optimised, tested and 24x7 operations

On top of that, different organisations have tied up with them to facilitate online betting. Internet bookies have signed arrangements with sports organisations and others so that they can offer live betting options.

Other than sports, you can also bet online on financials, such financial spread betting and even other tournaments like in poker tournaments and others.

Yes, people also bet on economic events and financials which they may also have an investment or simply like the name of the company! Punters can also bet on financials without actually putting their money in an actual business, which some people will find reassuring.

Internet betting also offers convenience. There are no queues where you must line up. You don’t have to line up to get a betting slip, you don’t have to line up to have your bets validated or processed by a teller, and you also don’t need to wait in queue to collect your winnings.

If you’re not particularly keen on all of that then internet betting will appeal to you. Everything is automated. You can be sitting in front of the TV enjoying your drink and the game. All you really need to do is to wait for the results...

•    The Case for Traditional Betting

Now, here’s the thing—traditional betting is more than just betting and making a gamble. We mentioned earlier that you need to at least experience brick and mortar gambling once in your life.

Why? It is because traditional gambling is also all about the overall experience. There is a social aspect to betting, such as the atmosphere within each betting shop, as we explored earlier within this article.

Experience is the one thing that online book makers can never replicate or even match. Betting on the internet whether you’re in it for the sports or otherwise will almost always be a solo experience.

Another aspect of physically being there to place your bets is that it is a lot less of a fuss. There is no need to give away your personal information and your banking information.

You’re already there in person to make your bets and collect your earnings. There is no need to verify your identity or be too concerned about identity or credit card fraud, as you’re in person!

Now, they’re the main and key differences between online and offline sports betting.

You can choose either of the two or just think carefully before deciding on your favourite betting experience, as you may need to try them both before choosing your favourite.

The last thing, you may want to consider; sometimes the easiest approach or the most convenient approach is not the best approach for you.

Think carefully about where you bet and wager your money with even more care…

Good luck!
